Abstract

The 2022 Australian federal election was held on 21 May 2022, and the right-leaning Liberal-National coalition government suffered a defeat, ending a decade of conservative rule in Australia. The coalition governments formed by the Liberal Party and the National Party had since 2016 taken a range of tough measures towards China and Chinese Australians based on some erroneous allegations, twisting facts to suit their political purposes and misinterpreting the integration of Chinese Australians into Australian society as China’s infiltration of every layer of Australia’s political landscape, including federal and state governments, education institutions, professional bodies, and businesses.
